The Challenge

"Identify a girl/woman centric problem prevalent in India or in your community in particular. 
Explore the problem and propose a solution to address it." 



In this section, we have provided details on how to write and submit responses to the Challenge.

The Challenge will be conducted in two Stages

Stage 1: Worksheet and survey submission

  • Contestants are required to obtain a copy of this worksheet

    • They should hand-write their answers on the worksheet (it is okay to use photocopied or black/white versions of this document)

    • We encourage that responses be kept concise and brief although extra blank pages may be used to write responses if needed

    • We will also accept typed responses in a Word document. Students should make sure that the document is rightly numbered

  • We recommend that the following judging criteria be considered when writing responses

  • Students are required to submit this short feedback survey along with their Stage 1 written submission to move to the next round of the Challenge. Response to the survey maybe typed in a Word document if access to scanner is an issue. Please note that the survey, while a compulsory requirement, does not affect your grade and is purely for the purpose of improving further Challenges.

  • From this pool of submissions top 10 contestants will be selected for Stage 2

Stage 2: Interview

  • Students will be interviewed to discuss their submission in further detail

  • Guidelines will be provided after Stage 1 is complete

Final evaluation will be done by considering the submissions from both Stage 1 and interviews in Stage 2. Upto 5 contestants will be declared as winners of the Challenge

Note for returning participants: We expect many of our participants from 2017 to return this year and we welcome them! However, please note the following:

  • If your submission did not make it to the interview round in 2017, you may re-submit the same solution. However we expect your work to have significant improvements compared to last year

  • If your submission made it to the interview round in 2017 but you were not selected as a winner, you may pursue the same issue again. However make sure your solution is different from what you submitted in 2017

  • Please note that you are always free to tackle a new issue altogether

  • Only one submission per student will be allowed



  • The Challenge is open only to girls in India

    • who are high school students in grades 9-12

    • whose school / affiliated NGO's have consented to their participation in the challenge

  • Minors (age <18 yrs on date of submission) would also need permission from their parent/legal guardian to participate.

Note: Permissions can be documented as signatures on pg#1 of the Challenge worksheet


Important dates:

  • Registration open: April 1, 2018 - July 14th, 2018

  • Window to submit entries (Stage 1): April 15th - July 15th, 2018

  • Finalists announced: August 15th, 2018

  • Personal interview (Stage 2): August 16th to August 30th, 2018

  • Declaration of Challenge winners: September 2018


The Award:


  • The top 5 contestants (including in the needs based category) will be awarded upto INR 1 Lakh as scholarship for college (undergraduate) expenses

  • Disbursement details of the award will be discussed with the winners individually


  • The top participants will be matched one-to-one with mentors in the United States

  • Mentors will work with mentees on goal setting, leadership development, education and career exploration thus providing access to opportunities to young women to develop their confidence and leadership, graduate from college and ultimately become leaders and changemakers

Girl Advisory Board (GAB)

  • The winners of the Challenge and participants demonstrating strong interest will be connected with each other through GAB. GAB will be an opportunity for girls to develop their change making potential and exercise their leadership skills.

  • Girls will participate in and contribute to Go Laadli’s decision-making, thus exercising their leadership and ensuring that our programs are aligned with their needs and wants.

  • Additionally, GAB programming will have workshops on change making and leadership skills including topics such as empathy, visibility and voice, creative and critical thinking, self-efficacy leading to agency, engagement in communities and changemaking facilitated by global experts.

Needs based category

  • In order to be inclusive, in addition to only merit based category, Go Laadli will also be considering a need based category based on annual family income of the participant
